5 Signs It’s Time to Visit the Mechanic

Sometimes you have minor issues with your vehicle that you don’t give a second thought. Other times, major repairs are needed. It’s essential that you seek a mechanic’s advice sooner rather than later when you think you might have a serious automobile problem. If you notice any of these five signs, you may be in need of immediate vehicle repair.

Leaking Fluid

It’s normal to see water dripping from the bottom of your car when the weather is hot and the air conditioning is running. A green puddle, however, is definitely not normal. This puddle can indicate a coolant leak while a reddish-brown puddle may be a sign of an oil or brake fluid leak.

Noisy Brakes

Quiet brakes are good brakes; the less you hear, the better you can trust that everything is working correctly. When your brakes start to grind or squeal, then it’s a sign of a critical problem. Get your car to the mechanic to have a qualified technician check it out.

Smoke Under the Hood

If you see smoke billowing from under your car’s hood, call the mechanic right away Usually smoke under the hood is a sure sign that your car is overheating. This can cause major issues if ignored.

Flashing Check Engine Light

A steady check-engine light can indicate anything from a minor inconvenience to a major repair. You should be concerned, however, when that light starts to flash. When your check engine light starts blinking at you, make an appointment with your mechanic as soon as possible.

Unpredictable Transmission

Does your car inexplicably speed up without prompting while you’re driving? Or do you find it difficult to get up to driving speed even when you really get on the gas? Either one of these situations could mean that your car’s transmission is experiencing some technical difficulties. Get the cause diagnosed soon before you end up in a bad situation.

  1. It’s good to know that when it comes to brakes, the less you hear, the better. Our brakes have been getting more and more noisy recently, and it’s beginning to worry me and my kids. We should probably just take the car in to a mechanic and get everything checked out, even if just to make sure nothing needs to be repaired.

  2. It’s good to know that if there is smoke under the hood, you need to get your car repaired. We had some smoke under the hood of our truck the other day, so we’ll have to take it in to a shop. I want to get it repaired as soon as possible so we don’t have to worry.
